What is Warbirds.io

Warbirds.io mixes air, land and sea combat in one voxel world. You pick a side and fight for control of a single golden ring. Because both teams fight over the same objective, the action stays in one area instead of spreading across the whole map. You can play alone or with friends, and you do not need to create an account or install anything.

How a match works

You choose a team and a vehicle: aircraft, tank or warship. Then you fight to capture and hold the golden ring. Each vehicle class does a different job:

  • Aircraft can strafe, bomb and dogfight. They move fast and can reach the ring quickly, but you need to control speed and pitch.
  • Tanks handle ground combat, with tank duels and several abilities.
  • Warships bring long-range naval guns and torpedoes, and they command the water around the map.

Because each class has its own controls and weapons, it helps to learn one vehicle at a time.

If pitch feels backwards to you, press I to invert it. Many players who are used to flight games prefer inverted pitch, while others find the default more natural, so try both.

Tank controls

  • W and S drive. Reverse is at the bottom of the throttle. A and D steer.
  • The mouse lays the gun, and the range is automatic. Click or press Space to fire.
  • Z zooms in. X swaps between AP and HE shells.
  • B fires a missile, C pops smoke, R repairs, T calls artillery, G gives overdrive and F bails out.

Warship controls

  • W and S work the engine telegraph, with reverse at the bottom. A and D work the rudder.
  • The mouse trains the guns, and the range is automatic. Click or press Space to fire.
  • B fires torpedoes, C pops smoke, Z zooms and X swaps shells.
  • R is damage control, T is the repair party, G is boost and F leaves the ship.

General controls

Hold Tab for the scoreboard, press Enter to chat, hold H for the comms wheel, press M to mute and O to open Settings. Controls are fully rebindable in Settings, and gamepads and HOTAS are supported. If you own a gamepad or a flight stick, connecting it is a good way to fly more smoothly.

Mobile controls

On a phone or tablet, the left thumbstick steers, the left slider controls throttle, and the FIRE button shoots. Drag on the right side of the screen to look around. On-screen chips handle crew actions. Take a minute in your first match to find each control before you commit to a fight.

Tips for your first matches

  • Learn one vehicle first. Each class plays differently, so pick one and get comfortable before switching.
  • Keep the goal in mind. Both teams fight over a single golden ring, so staying near it matters more than chasing kills far away.
  • Use the right weapon for the job. Aircraft drop bombs, torpedoes or rockets with B, and tanks and warships swap shell types with X.
  • Watch your throttle in a plane. Too much speed makes it hard to turn, and too little makes you an easy target. Use Shift and Ctrl to adjust.
  • Use the helpers. Autopilot (P) and auto-trim (T) can keep your plane stable while you look around.
  • Use smoke and repairs. Tanks and warships both have smoke on C and repair options, and they can save a vehicle that is about to be destroyed.
  • Communicate. Hold H for the comms wheel, or press Enter to chat, so your team knows where you are going.
  • Check Settings. If the default layout feels wrong, rebind it before you start.
