How to Build a Games Section for an Existing Website
Plan a useful game landing page, category structure, cards, detail pages, feeds, and removal workflow before importing a large catalog.
A games section needs more than a grid of thumbnails. Visitors need to know what is playable on their device, how long a session might take and where to find another game when one is not a fit. Start with the page structure and update workflow before connecting a large feed.
Design the smallest useful structure
- One landing page that explains the collection and shows a limited set of current picks.
- A small category set based on choices visitors understand, not every tag supplied by a feed.
- A detail page or panel with the game, controls, device support, orientation, provider credit and a fallback link.
- A removal path that can unpublish a broken game without leaving dead internal links.
Make each card answer a real question
A thumbnail and title identify the game. Add one short line for the mechanic and visible labels for touch support or desktop-only controls when that distinction matters. Avoid invented star scores and generic descriptions generated from the category name. If you have no reliable rating data, omit the rating instead of filling the card with a decorative number.
Choose manual entries or a feed
Manual entries work for a small editorial collection and give you control over every description. A JSON or XML feed is useful when the collection changes often, but it still needs validation, caching and a rule for items that disappear. Store the provider's stable identifier and source URL so updates change the correct game rather than creating duplicates.
Plan empty and broken states
The provider can be slow, a game can be removed, or an iframe can fail a browser policy. Keep the surrounding page usable: reserve the player space, show a clear loading state, provide a retry, and offer another game if the source remains unavailable. Do not leave a black rectangle with no explanation.
Launch with editorial ownership
Assign someone to check the collection, not just the import job. Review new additions, expired entries, mobile behavior and category quality on a schedule. PlayKovo offers individual embeds and catalog feeds from the publisher catalog; choose the smaller integration that your team can maintain well.
