How to Embed an HTML5 Game in WordPress Without Breaking Mobile
A WordPress-focused setup for custom HTML blocks, responsive iframe sizing, fullscreen permission, caching, and theme conflicts.
WordPress can publish a game iframe without a special game plugin. Use a Custom HTML block, keep the provider's iframe attributes, and let a wrapper control the size. The two common failures are pasting the code into a Paragraph block, which escapes it as text, and giving the iframe a fixed desktop width that overflows on phones.
Paste the provider's code in the right block
- In the block editor, add a Custom HTML block rather than a Paragraph or Code block.
- Paste the complete iframe supplied for that game, including allow and allowfullscreen attributes.
- Preview the post while logged out; security and optimization plugins can behave differently for visitors.
- If WordPress removes the iframe on save, check the account's unfiltered HTML permission and the site's security policy instead of repeatedly pasting the same code.
Use a responsive wrapper
Set the wrapper to width:100%, position:relative and an aspect-ratio that matches the game. Set the iframe to width:100%, height:100% and border:0. A landscape game may use 16 / 9; a portrait game needs its own narrower stage or a centered portrait iframe inside a landscape section. Do not stretch a portrait canvas to imitate a landscape game.
Keep fullscreen and controls available
Fullscreen, pointer lock, autoplay and gamepad access depend on iframe permissions and browser policy. Keep only the permissions included by the provider, but do not delete them for visual tidiness. Then test keyboard focus: click inside the game, play, exit fullscreen and confirm that the WordPress page can scroll again.
Check optimization plugins last
Lazy-loading and script-delay plugins can postpone an iframe until after a click or move it during layout. That may be useful, but verify the loading placeholder has a fixed height and that the first tap starts the game instead of merely activating the iframe. Purge page and CDN caches after changing embed code so the logged-out version matches the editor preview.
Copy the current code from PlayKovo's publisher catalog, publish it on a private test page first, and check one desktop browser plus a real phone before adding the game to navigation.
