Free HTML5 Games for Your Website: A Licensing Checklist
How to verify embed permission, advertising terms, branding rules, and removal procedures before publishing a free game on your site.
A game can be free for players without being free for every website to republish. Before copying an iframe, find the provider's publisher terms and save the version you relied on. The useful question is not whether the game opens in a browser; it is whether the rights holder has authorized your kind of site to display it.
Record permission for each source
Keep a small source record beside every game: provider, catalog URL, game URL, date added, permitted use, required attribution and a contact or removal route. A screenshot of an embed button is weaker evidence than published terms that explain where and how the iframe may be used.
- Confirm that commercial websites are allowed if your page carries advertising or sponsorship.
- Check whether the code may be placed on one domain or across several sites you control.
- Keep required logos, credits and links intact; do not hide them behind your own overlays.
- Do not download and rehost a game merely because the provider allows iframe embedding.
- Record how the provider announces removals or material changes to its catalog.
Check the advertising arrangement
A free catalog may fund hosting through advertising inside the game. Open several sessions and note when ads appear, whether a click opens a new tab and whether the provider offers a publisher share. Your own page ads and the game's ads are separate systems; avoid placing controls or banners where a player could mistake one for the other.
Review privacy before launch
An iframe still connects the visitor to the provider's server. Add the provider to your privacy inventory, describe the embed accurately, and make any consent treatment agree with what the code does. If the provider cannot explain its cookies, advertising partners or contact route, do not place the game on a public page.
Use a catalog with a visible eligibility decision
