Free Games for Your Website: How to Add Free Embed Games in Minutes
What free embed games are, what to check before choosing a provider, and a three-step way to put a playable game on your website with one iframe, with nothing to host.
If you run a website and want games on it, you do not need to build games or buy a license for each one. Free embed games let you add a playable game to a page with a short piece of code. The game runs on the provider's server and appears inside your page. This post explains what free embed games are, what to look for, and how to add your first one in a few minutes.
What "free games for your website" means
Most free game offers work in one of two ways:
- Iframe embed. You paste an iframe that points to the game. The files stay on the provider's server, so you pay no storage or bandwidth for the game and updates reach your site automatically.
- Downloadable game files. You host the files yourself. You control everything, but you also carry hosting, updates and licence tracking.
For most website owners the iframe route is simpler. It is also what you want if you are testing whether games fit your audience.
What to check before you pick a provider
- Is it really free? Read what is required in return, such as a link, a logo shown in the game or a registration.
- Who updates the game? If a game breaks, does the provider fix it or are you left with a dead page?
- Does it work on phones? Check device support and screen orientation (landscape or portrait) for each game.
- Is it safe for your visitors? No pop-ups, no forced downloads, no misleading buttons.
- Do you get a feed? If you want more than a few games, a JSON or XML feed saves hours of copy-paste.
How to add a free embed game in three steps
- Choose a game in the PlayKovo catalog. Its embed address looks like
https://playkovo.com/embed/GAME-SLUG. - Paste the iframe into a custom HTML block or an HTML-capable page on your site:
<div style="position:relative;width:100%;aspect-ratio:16/9;overflow:hidden;background:#000;"> <iframe src="https://playkovo.com/embed/GAME-SLUG" title="Game on PlayKovo" style="position:absolute;inset:0;width:100%;height:100%;border:0;" loading="lazy" allow="fullscreen; autoplay; gamepad; pointer-lock" allowfullscreen> </iframe> </div> - Test on a phone. Open the page, start the game, and check that it fits the screen. For portrait games use a tall box such as
aspect-ratio:9/16withmax-width:420px.
Do not add referrerpolicy="no-referrer" to the iframe. PlayKovo reads the referrer to know which website a launch came from, and without it your launches cannot be counted.
Which games to start with
Do not embed everything on day one. Start with a few games that load quickly and are easy to understand in five seconds: simple puzzle, runner and arcade games work well for most audiences. Our guide on the blog about choosing your first 20 games explains how to build a balanced first set.
Want more than a few games?
The PlayKovo embed catalog is also available as a JSON or XML feed without an API key, so you can build a full game section. See the partner documentation for the fields and examples. To see launches from your own site in a dashboard, register your website with the exact domain that shows the iframe.
Common mistakes
- Putting several heavy games on one page. Each iframe loads its own game; use
loading="lazy"and keep one game per page where you can. - Using a fixed width that breaks on phones.
- Embedding a game and never checking it again. Review your game pages from time to time.
